JSOU is located at Hurlburt Field, on northwest Florida's gulf coast, five miles west of Fort Walton Beach and 40 miles East of Pensacola. The main gate entrance is on US Highway 98 (Miracle Strip Parkway). The University is located in the Alison Building (Bldg 90503), 357 Tully Street, Hurlburt Field, FL 32544, one block east of the lodging office.

US Government contract air fares will determine your arrival and departure airport. Visitors are responsible for transportation to and from the airport. Commercial taxi is available. Rental cars are available at both airports, but must be funded by the sponsoring unit.

Okaloosa Regional Airport (VPS) adjoins Eglin AFB and is 14 miles north east of Hurlburt Field. Northwest, Atlantic Southeast (Delta Connection), and US Air Express are the primary commercial air carriers operating out of this facility.

Pensacola Regional Airport (PNS) is 42 miles west of Hurlburt Field. Delta, Continental, Northwest, and US Air are the primary commercial air carriers operating out of this facility.

Temporary base passes may be obtained at the Main Gate entrance (via Highway 98) to Hurlburt Field (You must have government-issued picture identification). You are highly encouraged to obtain your pass prior to the first day of class in order to ensure that you make it to class in a timely manner. Student parking is located adjacent to the University (in front of the tennis courts) and across the street.

Ensure that you make room reservations as soon as you're notified of course attendance. On-base temporary lodging is difficult to obtain at times. Lodging checkout time is 1200 (This is a firm time). To allow for room cleanup, all baggage must be removed prior to 1200 on the day of checkout. If not, you will be charged for another day of lodging.

When on-base quarters are not available, the Lodging Office will direct students to specific contracted commercial quarters off-base. If off-base contract quarters are not available, the Lodging Office will issue non-availability statements as required. All students who have not been provided with firm reservations from the Hurlburt Field Lodging Office must be prepared to pay off-base lodging rates which can exceed the allowable per diem rate during tourist seasons.

Please be aware that on-base lodging is "very limited" to "non-existent" for visiting families. Unless your family member(s) is/are attending the school in an official capacity and on official orders, lodging is not required to provide them quarters.

For all courses, military students may wear any official uniform combination, to include any combination of the dress uniform, flight suits, or battle dress uniform.  Civilian personnel should wear conservative, professional type casual attire (slacks, open collar shirts, dresses, etc.).  Jeans, shorts, T-shirts, athletic wear, and other very casual types of attire are not authorized.

Government dining facilities are available for all military and civilian personnel TDY to Hurlburt Field.  Other on-base facilities include J.R. Rockers (all-ranks sports bar), Community Activity Center, Bowling Alley, BX Food Court, and Burger King.

Off-base eating establishments are located approximately 3-5 miles away.  Base transportation is not provided.

The University's facilities were designed to accommodate students with special needs.   The University is equipped with an elevator and handicap accessible ramps.  In addition, interpreters can be made available, with prior notification.  Please contact the Student Support Office in advance with any specific requests (DSN 579-2757 or commercial (850) 884-2757).

Many courses do not end until 1600 on Friday.   When making departure travel plans, please take into account the announced time the course ends.  Early departures from class to make flights are not authorized.
